This is a double CV + Sub + 4 DD match, which I am sure would likely be the stuff of nightmares for some players, yet it was one of the most interesting matches I've played recently because of the complexity of the environment and quickly shifting tactical situations. This is a match I played over the weekend, that I feel represents the new paradigm of multidimensional warfare on a fluid battle space. And all of them operating together or in different combinations is what makes this game so interesting at a conceptual level, the tactical depth and variety of tactical situations you can face while playing the game is quite astonishing and what makes it a Superb Wargame in my opinion. they are functional abstractions of different warfare concepts. It doesn't matter Ships, Subs and CVs don't behave realistically or are not represented realistically. CV, Subs and all the changes that take the game farther and farther away from the original "shooter" paradigm, all represent different weapon systems with different engagement rules, advantages and disadvantages that come together to shape the reality of the new multidimensional Battle space. at its "core" the game has become a hardcore Wargame. This is precisely what makes WoWS an ever increasingly interesting and challenging Wargame (at least for me!).įorget about the "form", the arena shooter - arcade oriented gameplay. The good old trusted tactics no longer stand and what worked some years ago can lead you to a quickly demise today, the environment is now multidimensional and asymmetric engagements are increasingly common. Randoms have become this convoluted, complex and deadly space where death can reach you unexpectedly from every direction. I understand why it can be perceived as a negative change for players looking or acustomed to a more simpler pew pew shooty game. WoWS meta has changed with the introduction of Subs, one more step towards a more complex, asymmetrical, wildly variable environment. A fluid and ever shifting meta is usually what keep games fresh. An ossified, stale meta risks becoming predictable, boring and limiting the spread of viable choices in the long term. The game's meta is a living and constantly shifting thing, each new element that get's added to the environment, each change to the mechanics, all can potentially change the matches you play, sometimes dramatically.
